Hardware Wizard

CityTaps (www.citytaps.org) is an early stage social startup whose mission is to boost the health, dignity and economic opportunity of the urban poor by enabling them to access running water at home.

We are developing connected prepaid water meters that integrate with mobile money systems and our cloud software, to bring running water at home for millions of urban poor in developing countries.

CityTaps is a 2015 MassChallenge finalist, and more exciting news keep coming (see facebook.com/citytaps/). We are currently piloting our technology in Niger.

We need your help to develop the hardware side of our technology, and take our technology from prototype to production ready.

You like technology, and want to use your skills to make the world a better place for millions of people. Your work will help children go to school, women get an income and families enjoy a healthier life.

You are always willing to support your teammates and have a good sense of humour.

A formal engineering degree is a huge plus, but you can be self-taught if you are intellectually curious and motivated. You enjoy delving deeply into technological issues.

You embrace challenges and tackle problems in a creative way.

You can show that you’ve been instrumental in moving product development forward towards DFM.

Ideally, you’ve been part of the transition from prototype to DFM to industrial product.

You will be part of a very international startup team that speaks English and sometimes French.

You will iterate on our current design, redesign some parts from scratch, pick technologies and be responsible for the overall functionality of the product.

You will report directly to the CTO and be an integral part of our small and dynamic team.

You are willing to travel for short periods of time to Sub-Saharan Africa, and possibly relocate there. You will initially be based in Paris.

5-10 years experience developing hardware for automotive or industrial products, ideally on both electronics and mechanical aspects

Strong understanding of radio transmission technologies and protocols

Managed contractors such as engineering agencies or manufacturing companies

Comfortable dealing with regulatory requirements and certification processes (CEM, ISO standards…)

Low level embedded coding skills a great bonus (C/C++/ASM)

Fluent in English - knowledge of French or another language (Mandarin, Turkish, Hausa, or Swahili) is a plus

You are excited to work in a constantly evolving startup environment
