Product Manager

Moneythink is a Chicago-based start-up, ed-tech non-profit that provides high-touch, high-tech financial mentorship to low-income youth.

Moneythink seeks a product guru to cultivate and support implementation of its cutting-edge ed-tech innovation, MoneythinkMobile, as well as associated technologies. MoneythinkMobile is a gamified Instagram for finance.

Moneythink developed this blended learning tool in order to supplement and enhance its high-touch financial mentorship program. Having seen great early traction, Moneythink is now faced with the exciting challenge of keeping up with the rate of in-bound requests for this technology from external organizations. Moneythink is in search of an entrepreneurial, resilient, detail-oriented, and creative product manager to work with students, developers, and partners in order to grow this fledgling product into a full-blown superstar.

-Serve as primary point of contact with development team in order to execute on tech roadmap for Moneythink Mobile and related technologies. This responsibility includes: communicating desired feature refinements and additions in order to scope work; setting and enforcing realistic schedule of delivery for each requested item; conducting QA on each test build released and providing clear feedback to developers; proactively identifying bugs and providing detailed description to development team; managing budgeted hours for maintenance and support.
-Track analytics, observe product use, and synthesize learnings in order to strategize with CIO on tech visioning and roadmapping;
-Serve as primary point of contact with chapter network and national program director on ironing out tech complaints, problems, and troubleshooting scenarios from our students and mentors;
-Train mentors and other technology implementers in the use of MoneythinkMobile;
-Observe use of MoneythinkMobile in various implementations and support initial implementations on an as-needed basis;
-Manage our Parse account (BaaS provider) by monitoring database use and package parameters and editing data fields as requested by national program director to accommodate issues and opportunities that arise in the classroom;
-Track and monitor use of hardware and data plans in support of Moneythink Mobile;
-Compile regular reports on tech use and performance;
-Locate and screen recommended and desirable licensing partners by: analyzing deal requirements, financials, and potential for growth; evaluating product fit with partner in question; and weighting against internal priorities;
-In conjunction with other staff, develop and deliver tailored pitches for potential partners and cultivate negotiating strategies and positions;
-Provide orientation and ongoing support to licensees, including in-person or Google Hangout trainings; customer support and troubleshooting; and data reporting;
-Identify ways of reducing staff time needed to support licensees, whether through FAQs, improved product specs, or other as-yet-unearthed great ideas;
-Field in-bound requests around the use and licensure of Moneythink Mobile;
-Evangelize when speaking about MoneythinkMobile to the tech, design, and product worlds.

The ideal candidate will embody the following descriptors:

-Experienced: must have experience designing, developing, and/or managing products.
-Resilient: must show resiliency and positivity in the face of perceived failure; be able to take calculated risks; approach opportunities from the perspective of: “what do we want to learn?”; be able to pivot quickly in the face of problems/challenges/failures; message near misses in positive language; and understand the lean design / development cycle.
-Detail-oriented: must be comfortable living in the weeds and be meticulous in tracking the development of individual features and bugs.
-Driven: must work tirelessly along an aggressive timetable and have an attitude that says: “I’m going to do whatever it takes to get this done!”
-Mission-driven: must connect personally to the goal of financial empowerment for youth in America; make a daily connection between product design/management and student financial outcomes; make design decisions in the best interests of users’ financial outcomes; and speak convincingly on the impact we want to have in this critical area.
-Communicative: must be able to speak at all levels and in a range of different tones when the appropriate conversation calls for it and be able to stay on top of hundreds of different communication threads in a given week.
-Organized: must be able to stay on top of dozens of different workstreams at one time and have demonstrated ability to manage and deliver amidst a lot of noise.
-Autonomous: must be a proactive, self-directed worker and set and accomplish tasks for him/herself.
-Empathetic: must relate well to others and approach others from a place of understanding.
