Senior Biomedical Engineer

The Company
Cam Med is an early stage company developing the world’s first truly bandage-like wearable patch pump for actively controllable delivery of one or multiple injectable medications. Resident at the Mass. Medical Device Development Center at UMass Lowell, Cam Med is a MassChallenge Gold Prize winner, supported with funding from the Mass. Life Sciences Center, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, the New England Pediatric Device Consortium and private investors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The principal duties of the position are in product development with minor responsibilities in soliciting market and clinical feedback on the designed products. In Cam Med, we work closely with external manufacturers and engineering consultants for product development. Throughout the product development cycle, we solicit feedback from those people on manufacturability and clinical needs, conduct proof-of-concept experiments, and transfer prototypes to manufacturers for scaling up. The position is expected to lead on specific projects that are essential to the company, including:

• Design and development of microfluidic drug delivery devices and device components using plastics;
• Mapping out necessary milestones to demonstrate the design concepts, and identification of steps that can be tested in house with proof-of-concept experiments;
• Reaching out to manufacturers, particularly in the field of precision micro-molding and bonding techniques such as welding, to solicit feedback on manufacturability;
• Working together with engineering consulting firms in Europe and the US;
• Supporting the writing of grant applications, with particular focus on specifying research plans; and,
• Other duties as needed or required

Qualifications & Skills:

• M.S or PhD in biomedical, electrical, or mechanical engineering
• Experience in medical product development, preferably microfluidic devices
• Software skills in finite element analysis such as ANSYS or Comsol
• CAD skills such as AutoCAD, Solidworks and Onshape
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to learn new things quickly
• Ability to work independently, though within a small team environment
• Deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

• Experience in electrochemistry
• Experience in setting up automated measurement system, including skills in using Matlab Instrument Control Toolbox, and/or Labview.
• Statistical data analysis skills.
