Striga, a parasitic weed, is the greatest pest threat in African food security - rampant in 18 countries and reducing farmer's staple crop yields by 20-100%. Because 85% of smallholder farmers are women, Striga is a gender-based food security issue. FoxyT14, an innovative biocontrol technology, uses 3 strains of host-specific fungus to kill Striga. Grown on toothpicks, FoxyT14 strains are inexpensively delivered to farmers to make a highly effective on-farm inoculum (50% yield increase).
